What to visit in Veracruz?

1. El Tajín

The word "Tajín" has been given several meanings, in Totonac it means "the great smoke", "the thunder" (which manifests itself in three forms, one of them is sikulan, or Tajín, which is believed to be the discharge that strikes down the trees, that kills men and that precedes the lightning, the great flash.

2. Xalapa

Nor is it known with certainty who were the first settlers. It is believed that the Totonacas were the ones who first settled to the north, on the slopes of Macuiltépetl, where vestiges of them have been found, later founding the town of Xallitic. Other historians believe that the first settlers were the Toltecs, who on their pilgrimage to Yucatan and Central America, stopped for some time in the area.

3. Papantla

Recognized on November 3, 2006 as a Magical Town; for its history. rooted mysticism and tradition of Totonac indigenous origin. Its main attraction is the archaeological zone of Tajín recognized as a World Heritage Site.

4. Orizaba

Ahualizapan, was successively converted into Aulizaba, to arrive at the word Orizaba; Ahuizapan, which means "Happy Water" or "River of Joy"; of Ahuiliztli, Alegris and Apantli, river. It is represented in the Mendocino codex.

5. Cordoba

The city of Córdoba is a beautiful synthesis of the state of Veracruz, since it concentrates its characteristic attractions: lavish nature, rich history, beautiful buildings, warm and pleasant atmosphere, great economic and commercial activity, delicious cuisine and a cheerful and calm population. 

6. Catemaco

​The Sanctuary of the Lord of Chalma was founded by the Augustinian friars in the 16th century. Previously, the local indigenous people worshiped an idol located in a cave, however, it appeared destroyed and in its place a black Christ was found, which we now know as the Lord of Chalma.

7. Xico

Magical Town since December 6, 2011, title obtained mainly for its cultural syncretism, its traditions and customs preserved by its inhabitants to this day.
