What to visit in Sonora?
1. Hermosillo
As the capital of the State, it brings together a large part of the character of Sonora with an increasingly cosmopolitan vision and sensitive to the great current issues: it is frenetic, but loves to relax watching its sunsets; it is innovative and open, but attached to its roots and traditions. The new emerges every day, in different areas, for this reason, she is considered young in spirit and blood. Due to its capital and business status, its main tourist activity is business; however, the City of the Sun knows how to have fun, and in a big way.
2. Ciudad Obregón
Municipal head of the municipality of Cajeme, Ciudad Obregón is located in the south of the Sonoran geography, right in the heart of the Yaqui Valley. It is a young city that makes its way on the map for the quality of its people and its services. His vocation is in the field, mainly; however, technological development and research have marked its productive environment.
3. Navojoa
Since pre-Hispanic times, its territory was inhabited by indigenous Mayos, originally called Yoreme. For this reason, it is intimately linked to its valley and the Mayo River, a fact that influences not only its productive activities, but also its tourist activities, that is: the city itself offers a pleasant stay full of activities; but, if it is about adventure, in its rural areas you will find those outdoor experiences that are sometimes sorely lacking, such as going on an excursion.
4. Guaymas
Main port of Sonora, cradle of three presidents of the Republic and place of great stories (it is said that in Guaymas baseball was practiced for the first time in Mexico). The Port proudly bears the title of “Heroic”, since from there the Mexican soil was bravely defended on July 13, 1854, against the French invasion. It has extensive hotel infrastructure and restaurants, as well as a ferry that connects it with Santa Rosalía, Baja California Sur, and an international airport.
5. San Carlos
It is considered the great tourist jewel of the State, and it is not for less: its landscape, considered in 2011 as "Most spectacular sea view in the world", by National Geographic, displays a volcanic geography that merges with the turquoise blue of the waters of the Gulf of California, while the abundant sahuaros seem to raise their arms with pride to praise this site of enormous abundance in marine flora and fauna. It is part of Guaymas, and is located just 15 kilometers from it.
6. Alamos
Also known as "The City of Los Portales", Álamos will surprise you with its magnificent architecture, a fusion between the Spanish Baroque and the indigenous. Walking through its cobbled streets and alleys, through its restored old mansions, or among its historical and religious buildings, is to travel to another era.
